January 20, 2006
The 2006 legislative session of the state of Washington opened on January 9. The first two weeks have seen an enormous amount of legislation being introduced and legislators have been feverishly hearing bills in committee. This will continue until the first cutoff date of February 3, which is the day that bills must pass out of non-fiscal committees. The next two weeks will be very intense as this is only a 60-day session. More legislation will be reported as we are monitoring over 100 bills of interest and new bills will be introduced next week. For additional information on bills, you may access the state legislative homepage at
www.leg.wa.gov or call Roger Ferris at 1.800.491.9322.

Final 2005 Session Report
(The following report was provided to members in June 2005)
The 2005 Washington State legislative session adjourned
on Sunday, April 24. It appears that fire districts were not greatly
impacted by the legislature this year. The WFCA’s top two priorities
were passed and signed into law. All legislation signed by the Governor
after April 24 will take effect on July 24, 2005 unless an emergency
clause was incorporated into the bill.
